GameDev.tv Halloween 2025 Game Jam

The GameDev.tv Halloween 2025 game jam ran for 10 days, but I only had about 3 days to put something together.

This was also my first game jam using Unity, so there was definitely a learning curve involved.

The Constraints

The rules were simple but challenging:

  • only freely available assets could be used
  • limited time to build and submit a playable game

With such a tight timeline, I had to scale things back quickly and focus on getting something functional rather than polished.

What I Built

The result was a very simple experience:

  • an escape room–style puzzle game
  • built around a single puzzle

There were quite a few things missing:

  • no start screen
  • no end screen
  • no music
  • minimal polish

It was probably one of the quickest games submitted in the jam.

What Went Right

Despite the limitations, I did accomplish the most important goal:

👉 I finished and submitted a game.

That alone made the experience worth it.

More importantly, the core idea behind the game still feels strong, and that’s something I can build on.

What’s Next

Once the jam ends, I plan to go back and expand on the concept:

  • add more puzzles
  • improve the overall experience
  • polish the presentation

This version was just the starting point.

Final Thoughts

For a first jam, especially with limited time and a new engine, I’m calling this a win.

It may not be polished, but it exists, and that’s the hardest part.

Now it’s time to build on it.
